We'll have a nice Monday after a chilly start this morning. Highs should be in the mid to upper 50's all across Tennessee with some southern and western locations pushing the lower 60's. By late tonight, storms roll across our area and Tuesday will be an interesting day. We should see rain change to a mixture and then to all snow by mid-afternoon.

My father in-law and I have discussed getting our Ham Radio operator's licenses. He thought this would be a good idea due to the recent tornadoes that struck Macon and other counties in Tennessee. I, too, believe it is a good idea as communications after a natural disaster can be very difficult. I would appreciate any input from you all on this subject.
Reporting weather from an experienced perspective.

I would definitely recommend getting licensed. With the new changes in the rules, a general class license is easier than it has ever been to acquire. You no longer have to have morse code knowledge and you can go HF with a general class license. I only have my Technician license still, though.
By all means, go for it. My grandfather (K2INI) and I used to have a lot of fun. And in upstate New York, blizzards would often knock out power & phones and close roads. With his radios running on battery, we could relay messages for families and get reports on the storms. Grandfather was fully licensed and did all the ARRL meetings, etc.; I never got that far into it.
I'm sitting here looking at a radar showing a Pennsylvania-sized white blob bearing down on us, and all I can think of is "how is it going to swerve at the last minute to miss us?"
