I get asked this question a lot. "How much rain fell?" It is a great question and one I can usually answer in less than a second or two. Just took a look at 2008 to see where we stand...very interesting information.
Speaking of rainfall, I want to quickly point out an excellent presentation done by Mark Rose at the National Weather Service Office in Nashville, TN . He did an in depth study on the flood in Red Boiling Springs, TN back from June 23, 1969. It is an interesting read and can be found on their excellent weather blog
As of today, September 23, 2008, I have measured 33.61" of rain with my CoCoRaHS rain gauge. Average annual rainfall for Cookeville, TN through this date is 42.72". We have a deficit of 9.11"....*WOW*
The forecast calls for only a slight chance for rain on Friday, but the rest of it is DRY, DRY, DRY!
Let's compare 2008 with 2007. We all remember 2007 as a hot and dry year. How are we doing?
Through September of 2007, we recorded 23.37" versus the 33.61" so far through today. So, while we are 9 inches short this year, we were 19" short last year at this time. Quite a comparison, don't you think?

Good info...time for me to do the same thing!
Thanks Eddie...CoCoRaHS is an excellent organization and I love having CORRECT information immediately.
I'll be interested to see how you all come out over in Jackson versus average and versus last year.
