Wild Winter Weather Returns

We will see the return of the wild winter weather across Tennessee later today and tonight.  Ice Storm Warnings are posted for west Tennessee while some sections of Middle Tennessee are under a freezing rain advisory.  What's the difference you might ask?  I'll attempt to explain it below.

Ice Storm Warning means severe winter weather conditions are imminent or occurring.  It means that significant accumulation of ice will occur causing trees to snap and power lines to break.  It is considered a particularly dangerous situation.

Freezing Rain Advisory means conditions are favorable for rain to fall and then freeze on surfaces.  This can cause some hazardous driving conditions.

Here in Cookeville, TN..we should see mostly rain.  Our temperatures, however, will fall throughout the day.

The good news in all of this is the strong cold front that is closing in on our area will 'backup' tomorrow as a warm front.  This will allow warm air to settle back in and we will see highs reach the 50's Tuesday and the 60's for Wednesday and Thursday.  We do expect rain each day.

Be careful if you're headed west or northwest.
