Michael, we heard that there was a tornado WARNING issued for NE Putnam including Monterey, but the sirens in Cookeville went off today at about 2:15 PM. Just wondering what their criteria is for that since the warning did not include Cookeville...? We asked a firefighter we met outside Wal Mart and he wasn't sure why the siren went off either.
Back in the 'old days' (like last year), the warning systems were for counties...when our county received a tornado warning, the sirens sounded. But, since they (the NWS) has gone to more 'area-type' warnings (part of the county, not full county), I imagine the warning system still trips the sirens. Not too sure about that. Will e-mail Tyler, our Emergency OPS Mgr and ask him. You all doing well?
