Special Weather Statement

From the National Weather Service.....

...POTENTIAL FOR SEVERE STORMS IN MIDDLE TENNESSEE TODAY...

LOW PRESSURE WAS CENTERED OVER CENTRAL ARKANSAS AT 9 AM CDT WITH A
WARM FRONT INTO WESTERN TENNESSEE AND THEN ALONG INTERSTATE 40
THROUGH MIDDLE TENNESSEE. A STRONG COLD FRONT EXTENDED NORTH AND
SOUTH FROM THE LOW THROUGH MISSOURI AND ILLINOIS AND DOWN THROUGH
EASTERN TEXAS. THIS PLACES MIDDLE TENNESSEE WELL WITHIN THE WARM
SECTOR...WITH DEWPOINTS RUNNING IN THE LOWER 70S AND RATHER DEEP
SHEAR ALOFT...ALONG WITH A STRONG LOW LEVEL JET ACROSS THE AREA.

LOOK FOR STORMS TO BECOME MORE NUMEROUS AS WE GO THROUGH THE DAY
WITH A FEW STORMS HAVING THE POTENTIAL FOR PRODUCING DAMAGING
WINDS ALONG WITH LARGE HAIL. WITH GOOD TURNING THAT EXISTS IN THE
ENVIRONMENTAL WINDS...ISOLATED TORNADOES ARE ALSO POSSIBLE. IN
ADDITION...DANGEROUS CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING STRIKES CAN BE
EXPECTED ALONG WITH LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL WHICH WILL CAUSE SMALL
CREEKS AND STREAMS TO RISE QUICKLY AND PRODUCE PONDING ON ROADWAYS.
MOTORISTS ARE URGED TO EXERCISE CAUTION WHILE DRIVING ON AREA
ROADWAYS TODAY.

STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO FOR FURTHER UPDATES ON THIS DEVELOPING
SEVERE WEATHER SITUATION.
