Winter Storm Imminent

-SEVERE WEATHER MODE-

The above maps from the National Weather Service shows a HIGH PROBABILITY of at least a 4" snow for all of Tennessee from 6 am Friday through 6 am Saturday. I'm sure both students & teachers are doing their snow dance! Expect a Winter Storm Warning to be issued later today for Middle Tennessee. If you have travel plans for Friday, expect difficulties due to this major winter storm. Forecasting models are consistent and show at least a 5" accumulation along the I-40 corridor. Some locations, obviously, will get more than this. The forecast for the Cookeville area will range from a 3-6" amount. Lower numbers if the low-pressure system tracks further south. In southern Middle TN, there are very real possibilities of an icing event...which is always dangerous.

In this morning's forecast discussion from the WFO (Weather Forecast Office) in Nashville, they warned that 'conditions could deteriorate rapidly' and 'decision makers should keep that in mind.'
