A major rainfall event is expected to occur over much of Tennessee this weekend. Here in the middle portion of the state, we could see rain in the 1.5" to 2.5" ranges with isolated local amounts of 3" and up. The best chances for the most rain will occur east of I-24 along the I-40 corridor. This puts Cookeville and the surrounding counties in that bulls eye. See map above.
Timing of the start of the rainfall is earlier in the day in the western sections and late in the day in the eastern most parts. Most of Saturday should be fine in Cookeville.
A Special Weather Statement has been issued that says street flooding and isolated flash flooding may occur in the heaviest downpours. River flooding is not expected due to the recent dry weather.
