Showers and Thunderstorms Likely With Heavy Rainfall

A good chance of precipitation today (Friday) with highs near 90°. The biggest threat today is the possibility of storms producing heavy rain and gusty winds. Chance of rain is 70%.

BLESSED RAIN:
Speaking of rain, we sure have had quite a bit since just before 11 pm last evening. As of 7 am, I have recorded 1.64". This gives us 4.24" for the month of July. This is the most rainfall for a month since March. All of this rain has come in the last 12 days. This has caused yards to 'green up' and gardens to return to some sense of normalcy.

POWER OUT LAST NIGHT:
The storms last night caused power outages across much of the northern half of the city of Cookeville along with a busy evening for first responders. The lightning was frequent and loud. Our power flickered several times but stayed on.

The weekend looks as if the rain chances will diminish and highs around 90°

Another Day of Rain Chances

Nearly 1" of rain fell on Thursday across much of the area. We expect another day of possible showers for Friday with comfortable highs in the upper 70's to near 80.

Best chances for rainfall comes this afternoon as a stationary front continues to be planted in middle TN. The front will lift north tonight and dissolve. We'll showers in the forecast for the entire period, but our percentages will not be quite as high.

Two of our last three days saw highs only in the 70's. You have to go all the way back to June 9 and 10 to find temps that comfortable.

Special Weather Statement

Thunderstorms Likely

We'll have another day in which thunderstorms will be likely (especially during the afternoon hours) on Tuesday. Highs will only be in the mid 80's, a 15-degree departure from average highs the first eight days of the month.

*Radar by Wunderground (for Cookeville)*

HUMID WITH HIGH DEWPOINTS:
If you've been outside early this morning, you'll notice a quite tropical-like feel to it with our dewpoints up in the 70's and the temperatures also in the low 70's. A weak cold front is just to our north near the Kentucky border. It will sink slowly into middle TN. This will cause scattered to sometimes numerous thunderstorms in our area over the next several days.

BIG RAINS BY END OF WEEK:
Forecasting models show total rainfall amounts over the next two days in the 2" range with total rainfall by the weekend in the 3" to 6" range with some areas receiving even more. This would put a huge dent in the rainfall deficits.
